How to use a LUT on iPhone video (and shoot Apple Log)
With an iPhone, the right method comes down to one question: does your iPhone shoot log, or standard video?

BeforeAfterFirst: does your iPhone shoot log?
- iPhone 15 Pro and newer Pro models: they can shoot Apple Log, and iPhone 17 Pro also Apple Log 2. The image looks grey and flat: that's normal, convert it before the look.
- Other iPhones shoot standard video or HDR (Dolby Vision). A LUT made for Rec.709 goes straight on, but turn off HDR video first: Settings › Camera › Record Video › HDR Video. A LUT on HDR footage often gives wrong colors.
Apps that take your .cube LUTs
| App | When | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Blackmagic Camera (free) | While shooting | Reads 17- or 33-point 3D LUTs, shows them while you film and can record them into the file. Built-in Apple Log to Rec.709 LUT. |
| LumaFusion | While editing | Imports .cube and .3dl: in the Clip Editor, Color & Effects tab, Import button. |
| CapCut | While editing, on desktop | LUT import documented for the desktop app. |
| Final Cut Pro, Premiere, DaVinci Resolve | While editing, on a computer | Convert Apple Log (depending on the version); your creative LUT goes on top. |
| Color Studio (browser) | While editing, phones included | Apple Log camera profile, looks, export. |
With Blackmagic Camera: the LUT while shooting
Import your .cube into the app: you can show it while you film, and choose whether it's recorded into the file or not.
Keep the log in the file and the LUT on the display only: you can still change the look in the edit. Blackmagic Camera reads 17- or 33-point 3D LUTs: check your LUT's size before importing it.
With Color Studio, in your browser
With a plan, import your video, pick the Apple Log camera profile in your project, then try the looks. LUT (.cube) export starts with Starter, video export with Log.
